YNW Melly Denied Bond As He Waits For New Trial

YNW Melly has been denied bond yet again by a judge and awaits retrial in his double murder case.

The 24-year-old rapper will now remain behind bars until the retrial is over, even though his attorneys tried to convince the judge to grant him bond.

“After careful consideration, this Court finds that the State has met its burden of demonstrating that the proof of guilt is evident and the presumption of guilt is great. The jurors’ inability to reach a unanimous verdict does not alter the nation or weight of the evidence of Defendant’s guilt,” the judge’s order said.

The mother of YNW Juvy, who is one of the alleged victims, shared her sentiments about whether the rapper would have been granted a bond. She spoke over Zoom about worrying about her safety.

“I don’t think he should receive a bond,” his mother, Leondra Phillips, said to the judge . “he’s innocent until proven guilty, but he has money, and I don’t want anything to happen to me and my family, no bond, please,”

The next retrial is set for Oct. 9. The “Mixed Personalities” artist is accused of murdering two of his YNW affiliates in 2018. Authorities later said that the rapper staged the scene to look as if it was a drive-by shooting. Melly has been behind bars since 2019, facing two charges of first-degree murder.
