The retrial has yet to start for YNW Melly’s double murder case but the case remains in the headlines with more developments.
One of the accused accomplices in the case has now been arrested in Miami. YNW Bortlen, the accused driver in the YNW Melly double murder case who is also facing charges of his own, was taken into custody. YNW Bortlen, whose real name is Cortlen Henry, has been hit with witness tampering charges following his home being raided by police.
Bortlen’s trial was initially set to start the day he was arrested but a judge decided to reschedule it to January 2024. Borlten is Melly’s co-defendant and has been out on bond since August 2021.
Some of the further developments in the case include Melly’s defense calling out the lead detective in the case for hiding incriminating evidence. Because of this revelation, the defense team is asking the judge to dismiss the case altogether.
Bortlen was mentioned as being one of the individuals who were trying to tamper with witnesses related to the case. The warrant comes from a phone belonging to YNW Melly’s mother that was taken with excessive force by the lead investigator. One of the allegations against the detective is that he allegedly snatched the phone from her as he was supposedly trying to turn it off.
As part of being released on bond, Bortlen was not to communicate with any witnesses involved with the case.
Prosecutors say YNW Bortlen assisted YNW Melly with shooting and killing his fellow YNW affiliates Juvyy and SakChaser after a studio session and then helped cover up the murders by making it look like a drive-by shooting.
