According to a witness of the Tupac Shakur shooting, Orlando Anderson did not shoot Tupac Shakur.
According to 8 News Now, the unidentified witness who took the stand and testified in front of a Las Vegas grand jury claimed that Deandre “Big Dre” Smith was responsible for the shooting that ultimately led to the death of the late rapper.
“Keefe [Duane Davis] is the one who’s going to make all the arrangements and all the plans until that gun goes into somebody else’s hand,” the witness said.
According to the court documents, a brawl that took place earlier that evening on September 7, 1996, led to deadly shooting at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Koval Lane.
Orlando Anderson, and Davis’ nephew, who were alleged members of South Side Compton Crips, was reportedly attacked by Shakur’s crew, who were alleged Mob Pirus members.
After the brawl ended between the rival gangs, Davis, who was seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle when it drew up next to Tupac’s before being shot at the junction. Shakur was riding in the passenger seat of a BMW sedan that Knight, the leader of Death Row Records at the time, was driving.
“When [Davis] passed the firearm to Orlando, Orlando didn’t have a clear shot,” the witness said.
“Big Dre is six-six. At this time he’s 370, 400 [pounds]. He’s big. And you’re not going to be able to lean over a big guy like that and get — I mean, my time of knowing things, doing — you’re not going to reach over like that because shells would have been popping all in Big Dre’s face and all kind of stuff. He can’t bend down or anything, he’s too big,” they added.
In 2019, Davis openly shared details about the 1996 shooting in his book entitled Compton Street Legend: Notorious Keffe D’s Street-Level Accounts of Tupac and Biggie Murders, Death Row Origins, Suge Knight, Puffy Combs, and Crooked Cops.
“Tupac made an erratic move and began to reach down beneath his seat,” Davis recalled. “It was the first and only time in my life that I could relate to the police command, ‘Keep your hands where I can see them.’ Instead, Pac pulled out a strap, and that’s when the fireworks started. One of my guys from the back seat grabbed the Glock and started bustin’ back.”
The house Davis and his wife share was searched in July for evidence of the 27-year-old crime. Detectives found computers, pictures, and a hard drive,.40 caliber bullets, and a magazine that featured Shakur.
Authorities suspect that Smith, Anderson, Terrence “Bubble Up” Brown, and the newly detained Duane “Keefe D” Davis were all in the car that was involved in the drive-by shooting.
Davis was arrested in connection with the alleged drive-by shooting on Friday, Sept. 29.
