Trinidad James is voicing his thoughts on the current state of hip-hop and feels that one rapper did it for the culture this summer.
The “All Gold Everything” rapper issued a message and believed that Gunna “Saved Male Hip-Hop.” James took to Instagram to praise Gunna for his fourth album, A Gift & a Curse.
“Please Stop Saying The Summer Was Boring.” the 35-year-old rapper wrote in the caption under Gunna’s latest album artwork. “That’s a Lie you wanna make true. @gunna Saved It for Male Hip Hop. God Don’t Make Mistakes. #DAD”
In its first week, Gunna’s latest effort, A Gift & a Curse, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart with 85,000 album-equivalent units. The acclaimed album became Gunna’s fifth top-10 album. The hit single from the project “Fukumean” became his first No.1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart.
The controversy around the album came after the rapper was released from prison during a YSL Rico case in December 2022. Even with all the past legal issues around the “Drip Too Hard” rapper, Trinidad James felt that Gunna didn’t get the credit he deserved. The opinion received a lot of comments, with many agreeing with James.
“This album hit harder because of the context behind it! Gunna did his thang,” one Instagram user wrote.
“Facts album can play all day!!” another person commented.
“Open your eyes, bro, this ain’t it 😂😂,” one user wrote, disagreeing with Trinidad’s opinion.
Gunna is set to headline his first shows in two years in September. The rapper will be in New York and Los Angeles.
