After being transferred from Los Angeles County Jail, Tory Lanez is now a resident of a California state prison. The news was first reported by TMZ and included a new mugshot.
Tuesday, Tory Lanez was relocated to the North Kern State Prison in Delano, California to serve out three to six months of his 10 year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.
According to The Messenger, Daystar Peterson (the rapper’s birth name) will be transferred from the medium security facility, which is about a two and half hour drive outside of Los Angeles, to what is expected to be his more long term home.
On Sept. 14, Peterson was denied bail while appealing his conviction. After the hearing his attorneys expressed disappointment at Los County Superior Court Judge David Herriford’s decision to keep their client behind bars but called it “just the first step in the appellate process.”
In December, Tory Lanez was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm and carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm. He was taken into custody at that time and is being credited 305 days for time served.
He has maintained his innocence since the July 2020 incident. He doubled down after the sentencing stating that he refuses “to apologize for something that I did not do.”
