Judge Herriford made his official ruling in the Tory Lanez vs. Megan Thee Stallion criminal court case. Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison due to shooting a firearm at Megan Thee Stallion. The court rulings have been pushed back several times over the past couple of years.
On Tuesday, they decided to wrap up the Canadian rapper’s long-awaited sentencing. Tory Lanez’s attorneys aimed for him to receive probation and the ability to be placed in a substance abuse program. This clearly did not go as planned for the 31-year-old rapper.
The prosecutors initially wanted him to serve 13 years in prison. Megan Thee Stallions team stated that Lanez launched “a campaign to humiliate and traumatize the victim” along with “weaponizing misinformation” to hurt her reputation.
Megan admits that she has been traumatized by the entire event, which happened in the summer of 2020. The altercation took place outside Kylie Jenner’s house. The police were called, and then Swat stormed the estate. Megan says that Tory pulled a firearm on her and then told her to “dance.”
Lanez and his team pled not guilty to all charges. Never taking accountability that he was the one who shot the firearm. Even with all the evidence and witness statements stacked against him, he continued to show no remorse.
“To get a ten-year sentence is extreme and just another example of someone being punished for their celebrity status and someone being utilized to send an example,” Lanez’s attorney, Jose Baez, said at the press conference. “And he’s not an example. He’s a human being,” and that the 10-year sentence was “incredibly harsh.”
Ever since Megan came out and publicly told the world that he shot her, she started to receive backlash from different celebrities. This list includes celebrities such as 50 Cent, Drake and 21 Savage.
Tory had over 70 letters sent to Judge Herriford showing their support for the rapper. Supporters that sent in letters were his 6-year-old son, Iggy Azalea and many fans. The judge made the ultimate decision in the end regarding his sentence and chose to give Lanez less time than expected but more than the people wanted.
There has been an outrage all across social media regarding the trial. Fans are questioning the amount of time that he has been given. Some fans are upset at how the judge ruled in Megan’s favor. Do you think Tory was sentenced accordingly?
