Polo G may be calling it quits on his budding rap career because he believes the industry has grown stale.
In advance of the release of his new album titled, “Hood Poet,” the rapper vented his frustration on Twitter on Thursday, Aug. 17.
“Honestly after my hood poet album I’m considering retiring from music so I appreciate everybody ridin for me 10 fold,” he tweeted.
“This rap shit got so lame and watered down. It ain’t no fun it no more,” he continued.
The 24-year-old has been in the music industry for more than five years and has seen massive success within that short window. He earned multiple platinum plaques for his hit singles such as “Finer Things” and “Pop Out.”
He also saw major success with his single “Rapstar” and his featured appearance on the late Juice Wrld’s single, “Hate the Other Side,” both of which have cracked the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In 2019, Polo G released his debut album, “Die a Legend.” He released his second album, “The GOAT,” in 2020, and His third album, “Hall of Fame,” in 2021.
“Hall of Fame” reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, and the RIAA certified all three projects as being double Platinum.
Polo G’s fourth official studio album, “HOOD POET,” is set for release on September 15.
The album’s first single, “Barely Holdin’ On,” and its official video, was posted to YouTube on Friday, Aug. 18. The video has received more than 454,000 views.
Fans are eager to find out whether the rapper will reconsider his decision, or if will he stand by his word. The rumor that “HOOD POET” could potentially be the artist’s final recording will undoubtedly increase interest in the upcoming album.
Numerous fans questioned if the rapper was joking or not.
One fan tweeted, “polo g just dropped one of the best melodic rap songs ive heard from the last 10 years. nearly made me cry. music video is so powerful too.”
Another one commented, “This like MJ retiring from the NBA, we’ll miss you goat 😢.”
Only time will tell if the rapper’s statement was serious or if he decides to change his mind.
