Meta Confirms Lil Tay’s Instagram Account Was Hacked

The death hoax of viral rapper Lil Tay had many speculating on what the truth really is behind the initial death announcement. Well, now Meta has confirmed the account belonging to the 14-year-old influencer was indeed hacked.

The parent company of Facebook and Instagram, Meta, told TMZ that they had to step in to help retrieve the social media account of Lil Tay. Come to find out, an alleged hacker may have compromised the page and then provided a full press release on the death of the rapper and her brother to TMZ.

Earlier this week, Lil Tay’s death shocked many on the internet with a now-deleted Instagram.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of our beloved Claire’s sudden and tragic passing.” the post announced.

The family of Lil Tay said in a statement that she was very much alive

“My Instagram account was compromised by a 3rd party and used to spread jarring misinformation and rumors regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong,” she said, TMZ reported.”

The former manager of the social media personality, Harry Tsang, spoke to Mirror and said Lil Tay’s younger brother might be to blame for the hoax.

“My rationale for this perspective is twofold: firstly, the restoration of a compromised account on platforms like Meta/Instagram typically does not necessitate a 24-hour time frame,” the ex-manager told the publication.
