When rumors of Lil Tay’s passing began to circulate, the social media world was in total disbelief. Now as the story continues to develop, the internet is left in a state of confusion.
According to her former manager, Harry Tsang, this situation has turned out to be nothing more than a nasty hoax. The 14-year-old rapper, who initially gained notoriety on social media when she was just 9-years-old, is very much alive and well, she affirmed on Thursday, August 10th.
In a statement to the Daily Mail, he stated,
“Upon learning about Lil Tay’s assurance of her well-being, I find relief in the fact that she is secure. But I think the alleged hacking incident might not have happened,” Tsang said, in a statement to the Daily Mail.
“It’s important to think about the possible consequences of using such tactics, particularly given their potential impact on the perceptions and sentiments of the broader audience,” he continued.
According to a now-deleted article published by TMZ, the 14-year-old and her brother were reported to have passed away, according to a statement posted on the social media star’s verified page on Wednesday, August 9th.
Her father, Chris Hope, and former manager refused to confirm or deny the serious allegations of the pre-teen’s death.
“I don’t have any comment right now,” Hope said. “I’m not able to give you any comment right now. I’m sorry — I can’t.”
According to the New York Post, when the publication contacted the Vancouver Police Department, they were informed that neither Claire nor her brother had been reported as having passed away.
“As of now, we are not aware and are not investigating,” a representative of the Vancouver Police said.
This concluding comment appears to contradict the statement made upon Claire’s passing, which read, “circumstances surrounding Claire and her brother’s passing are still under investigation.”
The following day after it was announced that the former online personality was declared dead, Tay took to Instagram to clear up the confusion.
“I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I’m completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say,” Tay told TMZ. “It’s been a very traumatizing 24 hours. All day yesterday, I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking and tearful phone calls from loved ones all while trying to sort out this mess.”
When Tay was only nine-years-old in 2018, she gained massive attention by releasing humorous, profanity-filled videos featuring cars, in which she claimed to be the “world’s youngest flexer.” She boasted about several cars that she allegedly bought herself and had heaps of cash on hand, which she often used to flex on her haters.
Tay quickly became an internet celebrity. Just as quickly as she had entered the public eye, she vanished from it as her parents received public backlash.
