50 Cent took a break from his “Final Lap” tour to share his thoughts on a viral video with his followers on Instagram. The multimedia mogul reacted to the news of a flash mob robbery at Nordstrom in the Westfield Mall, Canoga Park. An estimated 30 to 50 people raided a department store wearing dark clothing, masks, and hoodies. They stole designer handbags, making off with an estimated $100,000.
The G-Unit founder posted a screenshot from a news report, with a that caption read, in part, “I told you LA was finished.”
50 Cent’s take on the alarming story has elicited a host of reactions from every corner. Discussions of politics, the economy, hip-hop culture, black market math, and conspiracy theories ensued.
“Everything happening in La rn is panned so the conservatives can come in and sweep… it’s before a major election… beware political “games” before election time,” commented one user.
“They need armed security and just start popping these mfs,” said another.
YG added his brand of wisdom by simply saying, “We ain’t finished. We just getting started 😎.”
Another user commented, “Rich people problems 🤷🏽♂️ they’re finally getting what the rest of L.A. has been like since the 60’s probably longer.”
“I do not feel bad for them stores,” commented someone else.
The math didn’t add up for another person else.
“100k in merchandise is like 20k in street value divided up by 20 people….makes no sense 🤦♀️” they calculated.
Right-leaning former UFC fighter James Vick responded with, “Coming to a liberal ran city near you 😂.”
Some blamed hip-hop itself, saying, “It’s partly Hip-Hop’s fault. Glorifying a false sense of self worth got people with no free thought doing this stuff to look a certain way.”
The string of smash-and-grab robberies that have been making headlines in Los Angeles won’t stop 50 Cent from bringing his tour to the Crypto.com Arena in Downtown LA on Aug. 30. The Queens, NY native is commemorating the 20th anniversary of his official debut album “Get Rich or Die Tryin”. The album sold over 9 million copies and featured the hit single “In Da Club.”
