The white gunman who shot and killed three Black people in a Jacksonville, Florida store also had rappers Eminem and Machine Gun Kelly in his sights. 

According to a report from Rolling Stone, Ryan Christopher Palmeter singled out the two white rappers while praising domestic terrorists such as Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh and Virginia Tech mass shooter Seung-Hui Cho.

Palmeter, who walked into a Dollar General wearing tactical gear and armed with a swastika-covered assault rifle on Aug. 26 with the specific intentions to kill African-Americans, wrote a manifesto calling the artists “valid targets.”  

The 21-year-old describes Slim Shady as a “n*gger lover and honorary n*gger” that should “be killed on sight.” He calls Machine Gun Kelly an “honorable n*gger to be killed on sight like Eminem.” He also alludes to once having proximity to the Bad Boy Records signee. In the 30-page rant, Palmeter revealed his hopes to start a race war and admiration for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ “rare principled conservative” interpretation of Constitutional law. 

Prior to the shooting, Palmeter was spotted on the campus of Edward Waters University, a historically Black institution, where he fled after being approached by school security officers. Upon entering the Dollar General, Palmeter gunned down 19-year-old Anolt Joseph “AJ” Laguerre, 29-year-old Jerrald Gallion and 52-year-old Michelle Carr before taking his own life.
