Colin Kaepernick wrote a letter to the GM of the New York Jets. He wrote a letter that noted how much he still loved and respected the sport.
J. Cole took to social media to post about how dedicated the athlete is and how he is ready to join the NFL community once more. The post included the entirety of the letter Kaepernick sent to the Jets, which was addressed to general manager Joe Douglas.
“I asked [Colin Kaepernick] if I could share this letter with the world. He was reluctant. My argument was that I believe people and all organizations should know the truth about how hard he works and how much he wants to play.” J. Cole wrote.
In the letter, Kaepernick offered his help to rejoin the team or an alternative to helping with practice. The letter describes how Kaepernick believes he could change and help the team. He lists out specific reasons that could enhance the team’s efforts. Kaepernick even told the GM that he’d like to help with practice, even if they do not offer him a position on the team.
“I’m writing, of course, in response to the loss of Aaron Rodgers. I know the aspirations this season were, and still are, to win a championship, and so that Hall of Fame-sized hole will need to be filled as best as possible to keep the team on a Super Bowl track,” he began.
The letter described how Kaepernick believes he could change and help the team. He lists out specific reasons that could enhance the team’s efforts. Kaepernick even told the GM that he’d like to help with practice, even if they do not offer him a position on the team.
By being there, Kaepernick said, the Jets’ defense would get “a truer read on the more mobile/athletic/versatile quarterbacks” and better prepare for the better quarterbacks the Jets would be facing. The seasoned quarterback particularly cited Jalen Hurts in Week 6, Patrick Mahomes in Week 4, and Russell Wilson in Week 5. Additionally, he added that by doing this, Wilson wouldn’t be under pressure from the Jets as they evaluate him.
He referenced at the end of his letter to vouch for his “character, work ethic and ability.”
Since concluding the 2016 season with the 49ers, the former second-round draft pick from Nevada has not been listed on a roster for an NFL team. This is supposedly caused in large part by Kaepernick’s political statements made on the field. Kaepernick stood protesting for equality and justice for Black men within the NFL community. In the protest, the players took a knee during the National Anthem. In 2017, he filed a lawsuit against the NFL.
Despite his prior accomplishments, no team has chosen to sign him despite his several tryouts over the past few years.
