Tributes began to pour in as Future’s artist and Chicago native Tray Tray reportedly passed away this week.
According to HotNewHipHop, Tray Tray was shot in his hometown of Chicago. He was reportedly taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. As his death has not yet been officially confirmed by his family, fans took to social media to pay their respects.
As the tragic news circulated, it has been speculated that the upcoming artist’s death was a result of gang violence.
A music video for Tray Tray’s song, “What They On,” was released on Jan. 8 and gained traction online as it garnered 5.7K views as of today’s date on YouTube. Additionally, he was well-known for songs like “Opp Music,” which has 308K views, and “Free The Opps,” which were some of his more popular songs. The Freebandz artist viewed the incident as “just another day in the neighborhood” during a DJUTV interview. According to Tray Tray, nobody was injured.
He collaborated with numerous different musicians during the brief duration of his career, which included now-incarcerated Young Thug and Tory Lanez. Fans reportedly enjoyed his music because they could empathize, and understand his life. With tracks such as “Like This,” Tray Tray was able to paint a vivid picture of the trauma he faced while living in the violent city.
According to Daily Music Roll, he was shot in the jaw while on 95th and Stony Island in Chicago before releasing “Like This.”
