Newly released body camera footage from a recent arrest suggests that 6ix9ine may have been in more legal trouble than previously thought.
The “KOODA” rapper appeared to be rather perplexed in the video as the arresting officer handcuffed him.
According to documents obtained by NBCMiami, Hernandez was cited on June 11, just after 2 a.m., on the Florida Turnpike, south of Boynton Beach. Hernandez lives in Casselberry, FL.
“You’re taking me to jail over a traffic warrant?” 6ix9ine can be seen asking the officer.
“You didn’t appear for court,” the arresting officer replied.
The 27-year-old continued to plead with the officer.
“I didn’t know that, when? For what?” the rapper exclaimed, trying to get out of the arrest. “I never received a ticket.”
According to TMZ, the Bushwick rapper was given citations for driving an unregistered car without insurance and going 135 mph in a 65 mph zone on the Florida Turnpike. He then skipped a court appearance in July, resulting in the issuance of an arrest warrant.
After being placed in the back of the cop car, 6ix9ine started an argument over who should be able to drive his car back to his residence. He argued that since he gave the officer a piece of paper with his license plate on it, his bodyguard should be able to do so.
According to the officer, 6ix9ine didn’t have the correct registration when he was pulled over.
Before continuing to talk with the police about his charges, the rapper instructed his brother and bodyguard to meet him at the local jail with cash in hand to bail him out.
“I still don’t get it,” the rapper said. “All my cars I put under my brother’s name, I don’t put nothing under my name. No, I ain’t have the registration on me. But they run the VIN numbers. All my cars belong to me … Don’t you just give [the citations] to the ticket clinic? … No registration is criminal?”
According to the West Palm Beach Defense, neglecting to appear in court in Florida is punishable by penalties or jail time. Depending on the circumstances of the case and the judge’s discretion, the punishment’s severity may vary.
According to police reports, 6ix9ine was arrested the previous evening, placed in the Palm Beach County jail, and released about three hours later after posting a $2,000 bond. The controversial rapper was recently ordered to pay $119,488 to American Express after missing payments, with the arrest only marking his most recent legal challenge.
