Erica Mena feels the repercussions after calling her former castmate, Spice, a “monkey.” She has issued an apology. After being publicly fired from the Love and Hip Hop franchise, Mena apologized on Tuesday after calling Spice a “ f***ing blue monkey.” 

“I deeply regret my insensitive comment and want to humbly apologize to anybody I hurt or offended by my thoughtlessness. My choice of words was wrong, and I take full responsibility for what I said,” she said in a statement to Page Six.

Mena was publicly criticized for carelessly and effortlessly using the racial slur towards a Black woman, and fans pointed out that she has two Black children of her own. 

On Tuesday, the two castmates had an intense exchange after they tried to squash their brewing beef. During their exchange, Spice once condemned Erica for being furious with her ex-husband, rapper Safaree, since he wept for her when she was in the hospital but not when he and Erica divorced. 

“I was his wife, and he felt nothing,” Mena explained.

Spice continued to dismiss Mena’s feelings. She even compared who faced the worst life circumstances and claimed that Mena acted like the first divorced mother. When Mena checked the Dancehall for her comments, she told Mena that she should stop complaining about being a single mother and further added more fuel to the fire by suggesting that her eldest son didn’t like her.

“Let me tell you something,” Mena shouted. “You wanna talk about my son? You don’t know about my f**king family!”

This caused Mena to get further triggered, flipped the table, and verbally attacked Spice. She wished death upon the Queen of Dancehall. The Puerto Rican and Dominican actress continued and called the Jamaican artist a “f***ing blue monkey.” This caused a rift on social media as fans blasted Mena for throwing the racial slur effortlessly, which led to them calling for the actress to be fired from the franchise.  

This wasn’t the first time fans saw Mena call her Black castmates a “monkey.” In 2015, Mena called former Love and Hip Hop: New York star Jhonni Blaze a “monkey.” According to Forbes, she was also accused of calling a group of promoters “Black monkeys.”
