He only needs one more hit to add this accomplishment to his legacy!
After his latest single “Slime You Out” dropped and reached the number one spot on Billboard, Drake reached another milestone in his career and received his twelfth overall number one hits. The collaboration, from Drake’s album For All the Dogs, expected Oct. 6, is Drake’s 12th Hot 100 leader, tying him for the fifth-most in the list’s history, and SZA’s second, according to the publication.
The 6 God is currently just one song away from tying him for the fourth-most number ones in Billboard history. Currently, Drake is tied with Madonna and The Supremes in the fifth-most number ones in Billboard history, while Jackson holds thirteen chart-topping hits. Drake is preceded on the charts by music industry titans such as Mariah Carey with 19 smash hits under her belt, and Rihanna with 14 number one hits. The Beatles are at the top of the list with 20 hit songs.
In August Billboard reported that as 2023 comes to an end, Hip-Hop had yet to be ranked first on either the Billboard 200 albums list or the Billboard Hot 100.
“It’s not just a hip-hop thing; pop’s market share is down too,” Dave Gordon, a streaming consultant and manager, shared.
“Obviously, when you’re at the top and the No. 1 genre, which some people in the music business dislike, you have a bullseye on you,” he continued. “And the stat about No. 1’s feels like a, ‘yes, finally!’ type of thing from an industry that was never entirely comfortable with hip-hop’s dominance and may be hoping its lead continues to narrow.”
However, Doja Cat recently ended the year-long drought with her single “Paint the Town Red.”
Drake’s upcoming album entitled, For All of the Dogs was originally scheduled to be released Sept. 22, however, he decided to push the release date to Oct. 6.
