Dame Dash recently shared his initial thoughts about JAY-Z’s decision to apologize to rival Nas while on Hot 97.
The co-founder of Roc-A-Fella made an appearance on The CEO Show, and in true Dame Dash fashion he shared his reaction to the events that led to the peace calling move. He first gave his thoughts on Nas’ iconic “Ether” diss track against JAY-Z.
“I was in shock but I was happy. I wasn’t hurt,” Dame said after he heard his name mentioned in the song. “I’ma tell you right now what happened. I was hyped that he said my name but also I knew what homie was doing and I thought it was a distraction.”
Dash recalled that moments leading up to JAY-Z’s apology, he attended a brand campaign with rapper Freeway in Arizona.
While on-air on the legendary hip-hop radio station, the Bed-Stuy native issued an apology over his “Super Ugly” track. According to JAY-Z, the freestyle was an answer to Nas’ soul shattering diss track.
“When he apologized and shit, I was like, ‘No!’” the 52-year-old entrepreneur revealed. “I was hitting him from the thing like, ‘Get off the radio! We looking crazy!’”
According to JAY-Z, he shared with Angie Martinez that his mother, Gloria Carter, called him out for his disrespectful remarks aimed towards Nas’ baby mother, Carmen Bryan.
The Brooklyn rapper took shots at Bryan and claimed, “I came in your Bentley backseat (Damn). Skeeted in your Jeep (Woo). Left condoms on your baby-seat (Woo).”
According to Hot 97, Bryan served as the catalyst for one of the biggest feuds in Hip-Hop history.
“Mom put in a call and said, ‘That went too far,’” JAY-Z shared. “And she’s never, ever called me about music. So I was like ‘Okay, okay, okay. I’ll go shut it down.’”
According to Dash, once his former business partner issued the apology, it made the higher-ups of Roc-A-Fella look crazy. And even made it a point to blame Queens native, and Murder Inc. Records’s Irv Gotti.
“For three weeks, I didn’t talk to Jay about that shit,” Dash said. “And then when he went and apologized and shit, I was like, ‘Oh.’ I was hitting him from the thing like, ‘Get off the radio! We looking crazy!’ And Irv [Gotti] did that sh*t. A Queens n***a.”
During the podcast episode, Dash praised Nas on ever evolving in the rap game. However, he didn’t sing JAY-Z praises after he slammed “Super Ugly” and called the track wack.
“The rap that [Jay-Z] did was wack,” he said. “When I heard it, I was pissed. … I was coming from doing a Rocawear ad, landed in Arizona, and I’m listening to this shit on the radio like, ‘What the f**k is this?’ … I’m like, ‘What the f**k happened?’ And they in there high-fiving—it’s like what y’all high-fiving for?”
