It’s been more than two years since DaBaby went on a homophobic rant during his show at Rolling Loud Miami, and now he’s revealing that his actions cost him millions of dollars.
The “Rockstar” rapper stopped by Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast and got candid about how his remarks affected his finances. He revealed that he lost out on $200 million, but he remained optimistic even when he explained the situation.
“In hindsight, that parked me,” the 31-year-old rapper revealed. “Who is to say where I would be mentally and spiritually had I not been forced to sit my *** down and self-reflect? Because I still didn’t sit down when the incident took place. I’m fighting like, ‘Hell nah, that ain’t what it is. I’m telling y’all that ain’t what it is.’ God knows I’m a good fighter, but he was like, ‘Yeah, you a good fighter, but sit yo *** down.’”
DaBaby spoke on the situation as a lesson he learned and called it a blessing in disguise. He further explains that the 2-minute rant he had on stage helped him mentally after he reflected on his words and turned to God.
“I don’t regret anything that I done been through,” he said. “It feels so good to be able say that and mean it. I done probably said that before, but I ain’t mean it. It’s like, ‘Boy, I wish I had … $200 million, y’all robbed me.’ I don’t feel like that. I really feel like that’s a blessing in disguise at this point in my life, and I just came to that realization in the past two weeks.”
The North Carolina native found himself in hot water with the LGBTQIA community when he spoke about people with HIV and had harsh comments aimed at homosexual men.
“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases, then put your cellphone lighter up,” the rapper told the crowd during his set at Rolling Loud.
The incident ultimately hurt his career; brands didn’t want to associate with the rapper, and people like Amber Rose spoke out against him after he made his remarks.
