Almost 27 years after the fact, charges against a suspect in the shooting death of Tupac Shakur can be expected soon, according to The Sun.
On Friday, the outlet reported that sources revealed that the Clark County District Attorney’s Office is nearly ready to present a case against Duane Keith Davis, also known as Keffe D, for his role in the drive-by shooting on the Las Vegas strip that killed the iconic rapper and actor. The 60-year-old is potentially facing first-degree murder charges.
A closed-door grand jury hearing to review the strength of the evidence is expected in the next month.
The known South Side Compton Crip has admitted his involvement in Shakur’s death multiple times, including in video interviews and an autobiography entitled “Compton Street Legend.” Davis has stated that he was in the car at the time of the shooting and even handed the murder weapon to his nephew Orlando Anderson, who has long been rumored to be the killer.

In July, Las Vegas Metro Police executed a search warrant at Keefe D’s Henderson, Nevada, home. Detectives seized several computers, hard drives, .40 caliber bullets, and a copy of a “Vibe” magazine featuring the Death Row Records artist.
Beyond Davis’ own words and any relevant items collected during the search, other evidence and witness statements are expected to be presented during the hearing. Investigators “have spent months pulling it together and continue to hunt down corroborating evidence and other possible witnesses for the grand jury.”
Due to the high-profile nature of the decades-old case, “the homicide team did not enter into this investigation lightly. They knew that the world would be watching if they took any action against Keefe. They do not want to make any missteps.”
In September 1996, Shakur was riding in a black BMW with Death Row Records head Suge Knight when a white Cadillac pulled alongside them and fired multiple rounds from a .40 caliber pistol. The “All Eyez On Me” rapper was struck four times and died six days later.
The shooting was rumored to be in retaliation for Shakur and his entourage, some of whom are believed to be members of Compton’s Mob Piru gang, attacking South Side Compton Crip Orlando Anderson earlier that night.
Anderson was killed in an unrelated gang shooting almost two years later.
