Singer, actor, babysitter to the stars? Usher’s resume gets another addition with a surprising revelation the 44-year-old made on the UK’s Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp.
The global superstar revealed that a chance encounter with a group called “The Dolls” put him in charge of a pre-teen Beyoncé.
“I knew Beyoncé when she was 12 years old, 11 years old,” he said. “She used to be in a group by the name of The Dolls. I don’t know if I could consider myself their babysitter, but I had a time where I had to watch The Dolls.”
While Beyoncé was with The Dolls in a studio session at Grammy Award-winning producer Daryl Simmons’ house, Usher was trusted as their “chaperone, nanny, or something like that.”
Being in the same studio doesn’t mean that there’s an unreleased track featuring a teenage Usher and “The Dolls”, as they didn’t record together that day.
It would be years later, well after Beyoncé had also ascended to worldwide stardom, that the two would collaborate for the 2008 gold single, “Love In This Club Part II.”
Beyoncé is currently on her Renaissance tour, which was recently crowned as the highest-grossing concert series by a Black musician in history.
Meanwhile, Usher’s critically acclaimed Las Vegas residency, titled My Way, made headlines for sparking a public spat between Keke Palmer and the father of her child.
