Berner shared that the Compton legend turned down the opportunity to create “The Chronic” strain of weed. 

On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the Cookies CEO recalled the time Dr. Dre declined to create the strain after he pitched the idea to him.

“Dre sat down with me and I showed him a jar of what we wanted to call ‘The Chronic,’” he said. “It was by far the best-looking weed we’ve ever produced — it was incredible, beautiful, it was orange, purple, funky, stanky … it looked like it was out of a fucking movie, how good this weed looked.”

During his recent interview with The Bootleg Kev Podcast, the 39-year-old also shared the reasoning behind why the strain never saw the light of day.

“I showed him ‘The Chronic’ and he was just like, ‘yeah, I fuck with it I appreciate Slim [the Mobster] putting this play together and, y’know, we’ll think about it, but like I don’t know if I really want to put myself in the industry,’ Berner shared.

“He told me, ‘I got money money and I don’t really want to play with that until, y’know, maybe it’s federally legal. I just don’t want to risk it,’” he added. 

According to Insider, Berner started working at Wendy’s when he was 15 years old and split his time between living with his dad in California and his mom in Arizona.

He bought some marijuana in California after receiving his paycheck, brought it back to Arizona, and sold the bud. 

Twenty-five years later, while working in a cannabis shop and using his music to forge relationships and build his Cookies brand, he rose to prominence in the cannabis sector. 

Despite the disappointing news of not releasing “The Chronic,” Berner became the first CEO in the cannabis industry to appear on the cover of Forbes last year. He is has the net worth of $410 million.
