The 1982 letter, obtained by The Post, reveals a 21-year-old Obama sharing his views on homosexuality and his ‘androgynous mind’. The love letters, addressed to an ex-girlfriend, have resurfaced following an interview with biographer David Garrow. In one of these letters, Obama wrote of how he would ‘make love to men daily, but in the imagination.’ In these writings, he admitted to having a daily connection with men, but then clarified that it was contained within his imagination.
“In regard to homosexuality, I must say that I believe this is an attempt to remove oneself from the present, a refusal perhaps to perpetuate the endless farce of earthly life. You see, I make love to men daily, but in the imagination,” the Former President wrote to Alex McNear in November 1982.
McNear, who dated the politician during his time at Occidental College in Los Angeles, later redacted the suggestive paragraphs. Historian David Garrow then discovered the letters and included them in ‘Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama’.
“My mind is androgynous to a great extent and I hope to make it more so until I can think in terms of people, not women as opposed to men. But, in returning to the body, I see that I have been made a man, and physically in life, I choose to accept that contingency,” Obama added.
The letter to his former girlfriend Alex McNear is now in the possession of Emory University.
Barack Obama has been married to Michelle Obama since 1992 and is the father of two daughters, Sasha and Malia.
“I’m a historian, not a psychologist, but I think it’s ‘public record’ news that a (vast?) majority of human beings have sexual fantasies!” Garrow sent via email to the New York Post.
