A Utah man was shot and killed on Wednesday morning at his home by FBI agents serving a warrant for alleged threats made towards President Joe Biden. The incident occurred at 6:15 a.m., shortly before the President was scheduled to arrive in the state.
The man, identified as Craig Robertson, was facing federal charges for making threats against the president, including interstate threats and influencing, impeding, and retaliating against federal law enforcement and officers by threat.
According to the Associated Press, the Provo resident was armed at the time of the shooting.
As recently as Monday, Robertson took to his Facebook account to threaten Biden in connection with his planned trip.
“I HEAR BIDEN IS COMING TO UTAH. DIGGING OUT MY OLD GHILLE SUIT AND CLEANING THE DUST OFF THE M24 SNIPER RIFLE. WELCOM, BUFFOON-IN-CHIEF!”
The self-proclaimed “MAGA Trumper” has also posted threats against a variety of Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and several prosecutors pursuing legal action against former President Donald Trump.
According to charging documents, Robertson is described as a “heavy set white male,” aged 70-75 years old, and has been under FBI surveillance since March.
Travis Lee Clark, an acquaintance of Robertson, says he owned approximately 20 guns and was “very political.”
“The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously. In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident is under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division. As this is an ongoing matter, we have no further details to provide.” The FBI said in a statement to Newsweek.
