It appears that Iggy Azalea wasn’t the only well-known individual to lend their support to Tory Lanez before he received his 10-year sentence for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
According to Los Angeles-based legal journalist Meghann Cuniff, R&B singer Mario also wrote a letter to Judge David Herriford on behalf of the disgraced entertainer, requesting a lighter penalty.
“I can only hope that Tory will be there for his son during his most formative years of his life. The situation at hand comes as a surprise to so many of us that know Tory personally. I have never seen Tory act out of character in a manner to hurt someone,” the “Let Me Love You” singer wrote in the letter, dated July 26, 2023.
A report from Cosmopolitan also names Marc John Jeffries, known for his roles in “Notorious” and “Get Rich or Die Tryin.”
Jeffries wrote that he doesn’t know the “intimate details of the incident at hand,” but over their seven-year friendship, believes that Lanez is “a calm, relaxed, respectful and respectable individual.”
Perhaps the most surprising name mentioned isn’t a celebrity. Cuniff revealed that dermatologist and board-certified hair surgeon Dr. Craig L. Ziering also wrote Herriford.
Referring to the “Memories Don’t Die” rapper by his birth name, Daystar Peterson, Ziering said that he began treating him in 2018 and they “have become very close over the years” and had “plans to open outreach clinics and pharmacies in underserved African American communities to promote affordable health care and awareness.”
The personal letters did not stop Herriford from handing Lanez a 10-year sentence. Aside from opening themselves up to backlash for supporting Peterson after his December 2022 conviction, the letters at least added another chapter in the long-standing conversation about the Canadian’s ever-evolving hairline.
